Very much a fragment. Damn the book that I'm reading for inspiring this line of thought. :P Not entirely accurate to canon, because
15minuteficlets doesn't leave me time to care. :D

"You'll do as you're told," Albert replied mildly. "The battle must go well tomorrow, or we'll be set back."
Yuber snorted. "I could take the whole damned clan by myself and start your war." Luc echoed his sound of disdain, softly, still hidden in the shadow of the corridor. It was true enough what the creature said, though whether he would survive the attempt was debatable. "Forget Master Luc, you're wasting my time, Silverberg."
"As I said." There was a hint of steel in the young strategist's voice, quiet, with the husk of velvet. "Do as you're told."
There was silence for a moment, and then a loud crack; the remains of a chair clattered to the floor and into Luc's limited view. "What d'you get out of this fancy maneuvering? Rank? The girl? 'Start a war to lure the true rune bearers out of hiding,' you say. I could do it. Luc could do it. We could even have a little fun in the process without all this baggage."
He could imagine Albert lofting a brow, with that fleeting hint of disdain he thought he hid so well. "You don't appreciate our allies?"
"Meat shields," Yuber replied succinctly. "Cannon fodder. Even the girl isn't indispensible."
Another pause. "I wouldn't say that."
"No, you wouldn't." Yuber's sneer was audible. "That's it, isn't it - you want the fame, the glory, and Sarah between your sheets once you get rid of--"
"Enough!" Albert's voice cracked like a whip and broke Yuber's momentum. A chair scraped back, and his shadow was cast across the floor. "See to it that you carry your end of the strategy, and try to keep your mind out of the cesspool if you can handle both at once. This is not the time or place for your speculations. Good night." His shadow receded, though his footsteps halted before it disappeared completely. "We will not speak of this again."

-- #156: mockery
Well, I didn't carry that out very well, did I? :P But I had outstanding requests for Albert/Sarah on the brain, and this made me giggle - at least when I first came up with it. My imagination also supplied Luc's reaction to this, but I ran out of time. Suffice to say, I do not believe he would be pleased by such a comment.
If only this fifteen minute thing left me time to, like, PLAN STUFF, the story would be so much better. :P

Date: 2006-06-19 08:40 am (UTC)I've been contemplating a real fic about this subject for a while, but I feel so lazy about fanfic in general that I'm not sure I'll ever get around to it.
