Author: Amber Michelle
Day/Theme: June 4 - does anybody wanna buy a memory?
Series: Xenogears
Character/Pairing: Ramsus, Hyuga
Rating: K
Words: 345
Notes: Not my brightest debut. (Note to self: stop doing these things at the last minute.)
.............................................
He doesn't recognize me, Kahran thought when he met Krelian the first time. There was no flicker of the eyes, or sharpening of tone. Only, I trust you will prove yourself worthy of serving the Ministry. This is not a position meant for childish ideals or dreams.
Later, Hyuga told him the man was always like that: monotone, dismissive. He wouldn't speak to them again for months, likely, unless something went wrong. Missions didn't go wrong when Hyuga was on the job.
Go down to Aveh and threaten Shakhan until he steps back in line - check.
Subdue two malcontents in the Ethos hierarchy without drawing attention to our interference - check.
Locate the Fatima Jasper.
"Don't you get the feeling he knows where it is?" Ramsus asked when they were back in Etrenank to deliver their first report. They stayed in Kahr's apartment, because Hyuga still hadn't bothered to unpack his belongings. He had tea and instant soup in the cupboards, and a few expired energy bars, but his friend didn't appear to mind. "He's waiting for us to figure it out."
"If he knew where it was," Hyuga said, sipping his tea, "he would not waste our time, much less his own."
"He would be angrier," Ramsus said.
"He doesn't get angry."
But he does, Ramsus thought. Of course he does. "You could be wrong."
Hyuga propped his chin on his hand and stirred his soup, glasses fogging from the steam. He took them off, set them carefully aside. "I have no desire to see it."
So I've wasted the last ten years on you. Ramsus remembered shadows pooling around Krelian's eyes, and their blue glint in the harsh light of the incubator. He was close to human then, perhaps not quite, but he perceived the things around him - their physical state, the pressure on his mind from the ones that moved. Ramsus wasn't an empath like Sigurd, but back then he knew the difference between his creator's moods. Calm, intent, sad. Agitated.
Dispose of it.
"Neither do I," Ramsus said.
.............................................
This is all over the place. I kind of know what I wanted now, but obviously that wasn't the case when I wrote it. :P
