.............................................

Lehran found her by the silver lake near the altar, where he made his home after returning to Serenes. It was the second month of spring, when the nights were warm enough to be pleasant and the primroses bloomed in the tall grass, red and purple petals spread to the moonlight. The shore was crowded with rocks, some flat enough at the top to lay upon and spread one's wings, and warm after a day in the sun. His favorite was at the southern edge near the tree-line, but when he jumped to the top, gliding from rock to rock with the aid of his wings-- she was there in pale linen, hair spread over the rock, reclining as if to watch the stars.

Sanaki.

But not as he remembered her.

His landing scuffed the rock and she startled, rising on one elbow to glare. "I thought I said to leave--" She stopped. Her throat worked - a swallow, an attempt to speak, he didn't know.

"I apologize." His wings folded and her eyes followed them, lips parting slightly. Lehran sank to one knee and bowed his head. "I didn't know you were here. Please forgive me for interrupting - I'll go."

"No." Sanaki didn't elaborate, and his eyes were averted so he couldn't see her face. Her voice was much the same as before; a bit fuller, deeper, but not as vastly different as the rest of her. When she sat up her hair gathered over the folds of her cloak, curling over the edge and onto the rock, the same color as the twilight.

"What--" He swallowed, his throat dry. "What brings you here? It has been--"

"Ten years." Her voice was sharp, but when he raised his eyes to her face she was looking elsewhere, past the arch of his wing. "I needed quiet. This was the most peaceful place I could think of."

Ten years. Had it really been so long? It felt like he'd left her more recently; his memory of her smile in the morning, her voice, her small hand in his, was still as clear as she was here and now, in front of him. His Sanaki wasn't tall enough to look him in the eye while sitting; her hair wasn't this long, like a river. His Sanaki had not grown into her full figure yet as this one had. Her dress was cut to be loose, and the skirt was voluminous and divided for riding, but her shape sculpted it in a way that drew the eye.

"I'm sorry." Lehran looked away.

"Stop it." Sanaki folded her legs under and reached for his hands. Her skin was warm, soft, real. He could lace their fingers together without engulfing her hands. "Stop being sorry."

Another apology formed on his tongue, and he swallowed it. That was unfair of her. There were so many things he'd never obtained her forgiveness for, and possibly never would.

"I never punished you for your insubordination," she said. Their hands made a bridge between her lap and his knees.

"A grave oversight," he said, breathing in deeply through his nose before looking up. "Treason cannot go unpunished, no matter the perpetrator."

Sanaki sighed. "But it wasn't really treason, was it?" She turned her face up to the sky. "More like... idiocy. A naive, misguided attempt to follow orders. I think a demotion is in order."

When she was young he'd half-feared Sanaki would grow up to remind him of someone; he would look at her and see she had her grandmother's hands, his daughter's eyes, Altina's coloring and the curtain of hair he'd never gotten tired of combing. Instead, if anything, her face reminded him of his goddess - of Ashera when she woke, of Ashunera while she looked at the sky, over the lake, and at him.

Her eyes were dark. They didn't gather the moonlight at all, but shined. "I need a secretary."

Lehran stared at her. "A-- what?"

"Someone has to turn away my suitors," she said. "Just one, really, and he keeps trying to bother me while I work. Sigrun refuses to throw him off the balcony."

He refrained from frowning with effort. His face felt stiff. "My lady Sanaki, I would do so without a second thought."

"I should hope so."

"However," Lehran said, his thumbs skipping over her fingers, "you must eventually consider someone. Have you given that any thought?"

"Of course." Sanaki squeezed his hands so hard it almost hurt. "Maybe someday he'll realize I've never looked at anyone else in all my life."

I'm writing more, but this snip is most appropriate for the theme. Besides, I'd never finish in time otherwise. It's very rough for the same reason.

Well what can I say.. ? xD Sanaki was just as you described her, err... The narration was very nice reading. The words went flowing, and Lehran was ... Lehran :DD

Now my ramblings.
Buuut *whines* ! I feel strange because now that she knows he's her grand parent.
So ? So, the fact she still clings on him in *that* way despite it was something on its own. 'kay. But the fact that she shows it so directly... scary. ^^;
I enjoyed the trust, the confidence, the intimacy, and a kin of innocent attractions, but, her last words were too big a deal for my moral sensibility
(don't laugh, it's true :P)

I considered that. They're relation is one of the things that made the pairing feel strange. But while he's her ancestor, they're separated by thirty-seven generations, or maybe more if not all of the descendants were Branded. They're probably less-related than third or fourth cousins. Technically speaking, nothing would be wrong if they decided to... have a different kind of relationship. ^^; I don't really consider that an issue.

What makes this hard to write, actually, is the emotional bond they have. It seemed like a teacher/student relationship to me, but other people might have different opinions. It's strange and hard to work with because he was an authority figure in her life. It would make sense if Sanaki had a crush on him at one time though, because most of the other men in her life were probably senators. (Haha, not much of a choice there...)

Anyway, I'm not sure how I feel about it. Anyway, Lehran would have more trouble with the idea, probably.

Edit: genetics might contradict me on this. I haven't looked. That's not my strong point. ^^

Alright, I feel a little better now. @__@
(Don't take the senators as an excuse, there is still Naesalla and Soren xD)
Okay, I can't resist this pairing either, minus it get very... imaged . >_<
After all, I guess you're right. And although it's as if you feel in love with your old old old old old grampa, it's still nice in FE10 xD I just have to get the "grampa picture" out of my tortured mind.

Anyway, woot !
I love your works, I notice you really don't choose the easiest of pairing (that apply fro all of your fandoms) ans still, you make a great job out of you text.
Your pen inspire me respect.

That's true - I bet she had a thing for Naesala at one time. He's perfect for attracting a sheltered little empress.

I think Sephiran/Sanaki is really... sweet. Since I never really imagined him as her real family even after finding out he's Lehran, at least that doesn't bother me much. XD He seems to have raised her as someone not in his family anyway, so Sanaki would not look at him like that, I'd think.

I wish I could choose easy pairings, but they're too easy.

Thank you. I'm glad you liked the story even if it was creepy. XD

Catching up on fic, phew. The prose is really lovely, scenic and never purple (except for her hair. /badpun) and their characterization was so spot on, esp. Sanaki, who prompted me to smile just about every time she opened her mouth XD

I can't speak for everyone, but I'm not creeped out in the least :P PERHAPS I SPEND TOO MUCH TIME WITH OLDER/YOUNGER PAIRINGS OK

I admit a weakness for older/younger myself, though the age difference is usually a ridiculous extreme. See above? :D You can't help who you fall in love with~

BUT ANYWAY yay, I'm glad you liked it! Doing research for that request? :P :P I-I think I'm going to go on a crusade to convince the fandom, and it helps if the prose is pretty, yes?

Heheheh, secretary. Oh, the things that can be done with that.
