Fire Emblem, Sephiran/Sanaki, "Your punishment will be wearing one of my gowns." "...All day, my lady?" "All month."
.............................................................
"Since you find concepts such as honesty and restraint so challenging," Sanaki said, shifting against the pillows piled up to her headboard and crossing one leg over the other, "I'd like you to contemplate their potential applications in your work while you lie through your teeth about how much you enjoy this punishment." Her skirt slipped over her thigh and folded onto the quilt, the dark red highlighted in pink by sunlight filtering through her curtains.
Her dressing screen rattled. The pale coat thrown over the top swayed, its golden ornaments jingling. "I am quite restrained," Lehran said, slightly muffled. The arch of his dark wings peered over the top, and sun glinted on the very top of his head in a halo that looked tarnished. "He's still alive, isn't he? I could have done worse, and for all their lip-service about the dangers of my presence here for the last several years, I doubt your knights or the cathedral officials would bat an eyelash between them."
"That isn't the point." Sanaki waved her foot back and forth. The floral pattern on the back of her canopy reminded her of wings, the way the petals were sewn. It was entirely too predictable. She'd have it changed. "So? What's taking so long?"
She heard a shift of fabric and his sharp sigh. "The back is too high. It's chafing the base of my wings."
Sanaki sat up, let her legs slide back onto the bed. "You must be joking. That's the lowest cut I have."
"Thank the goddess. This is obscene." He turned, hit the screen with a wing, and the screen wobbled and leaned outward until his hand grabbed the top and set it right. "If you'd just wait for Leanne to send--"
"I'm not going to wait-- and it isn't that bad! Sigrun supervised the design herself." She swung her legs over the edge of the bed and leaned back on her hands, leaving her skirt bunched around her hips. "Get out here. Let me see."
Silence and the tick of her bedside clock greeted the demand. His wings shifted, the ends of his flight feathers sticking out past the edge of the folding screen, still, so it didn't appear he was moving. Sanaki repeated herself - and you know I hate doing that, Lehran, so come out - and she saw them disappear, the angle of his wings turn, and then he came round the screen and folded it aside to reveal himself in the glossy red silk of her favorite ball gown.
"Hmm." Her face went stiff with the effort of not smiling. It looked only a bit tight around the waist now that they'd loosened all of the decorative lacing, but the skirt was wide and full, flaring out from the hips until it reached the floor-- which it almost did, as Lehran was only a little taller than she was, but the hem hung high enough to see his bare feet. "It'll do for now, but we'll need to have something made in your size, I suppose. I don't want it to hurt--"
"The expense of a--" Lehran's lips flattened. He really was pretty-- the shape of his face and the contours of his neck were too masculine to fool anyone, but his delicate features and his long hair made the dress feel less out of place than she thought. "You know he deserved it. Oliver needs to learn the meaning of boundaries. If he'd done the same to Reyson, Tibarn would claim wrongdoing and bite his bloody hand off."
Sanaki told him to turn around, let her see the back, and he did so with a scowl. His feathers looked slightly ruffled. The low back of the dress, which scooped down several inches below her own shoulder blades, rubbed right up against the tiny, fuzzy feathers at the base of his wings. The skin there had pinkened, and the laces, stretched wide to accommodate his lack of shape, showed skin all the way to his waist.
Unacceptable. She wouldn't have people looking. "I have to show them I'm willing to punish you, Lehran. If it were not for the precedent I set in forgiving Oliver, they would be calling for your head, and rightly." Sanaki sat up straight and tucked her hair behind her ears. It slid on the quilt behind her when she stood up, and he watched it move when he turned around again. "We're going to have a dress made, and you will wear it for the whole of next month unless I tell you otherwise. Understood?"
Lehran's eyes flicked up, down, settled on her face, and his lips into a dark line. "Is the money worth a few weeks of embarrassment?"
"A few weeks?" Sanaki let her smile spread onto her face, laughing. She twisted her arms around his waist to stroke the bottom of his wing, where the skin had looked red. His eyes narrowed. "I think we can get more use out of it than that. If not in court, then certainly here when I'm in the m--"
Lehran pulled Sanaki into a kiss-- and didn't let her go until she'd forgotten what she was saying.
