.......................................

The heron princess came to Lehran the first spring after Ashera's fall, and he sent her away when he realized what she was asking of him. He was her elder by several centuries, and his children were born long ago - those of heron descent, those of human descent. There was no reason to return to that point in his life. If Reyson and Rafiel were out of the question, there were yet other birds to consider - what of Tibarn, or Naesala, or one of the king's servants?

Naesala doesn't want to touch me with blood-stained hands, she said. Tibarn has my brother.

Lehran refused and told her to find another. How could they know if his children would carry the right characteristics? What if conceiving with him would deprive Leanne of her own power, and the world of another heron?

He meant to speak with Tibarn about his monopolization of the heron prince, but Lehran was easily distracted. He cultivated a garden when his thoughts threatened to dwell on Sanaki, planting seeds for lavender and rosemary, hibiscus and camellia, and the many-colored hydrangea. When news came of Daein's efforts at restoration he gathered flax and prepared it for spinning linen thread, devoting every thought to remembering the process as he learned it when he was young. He avoided visitors. His home was deep in the forest, past the altar, nearer to the mountains - it wasn't difficult. The sound of the others singing echoed between the pines, and some days he convinced himself he found it peaceful.

Leanne came again the second year, when the months were turning to summer and he was outside, on his knees by the baskets he used to store dried goods with a clay jar of seeds. He gave her the same answer and turned back to the pomagranates he'd saved, the seeds he'd dried, measuring a handful into a stone mortar. "Tell your brother I want to speak with him," he said, taking the pestle and grinding it into the seeds. "His resistance in this matter is ridiculous. He knows what needs to be done."

He heard her dress rustle, thought she'd turned to go, but instead her fingers combed into his hair and found the skin at the nape of his neck. Her nails grazed the nub of his spine and he dropped the pestle, scattered the seeds, gooseflesh pricking beneath his sleeves. "They want to cling to the people they love," she said, pulling his hair aside and draping it over his wing, lips moving over the juncture of his shoulder. "Tibarn will die. Nailah will die."

Naesala will die.

For a moment he thought he heard Leanne say it aloud. Her hands found the clasp of his coat and opened it. She pulled it off over his wings and he turned around to grab her hands-- and instead she grabbed his, and slid over his knees, parting her legs around his waist. She was warm and soft, and the heat between her legs hardened his groin. Her hair smelled like fresh grass, like the finest gold flax. Her thighs were petal-soft when his hands slid beneath her skirt, over her skin.

Sanaki will die. He watched Leanne's eyes lid and glow when his fingers found the part between her folds and pushed inside. "Little seductress." He watched her lips curve, part. "I told you--"

Her mouth silenced him. Her hands pulled the tie to his pants and her lips shaped words over his. "I can't have the one I want either." The sunlight caught in her hair and her wings when they curved around him until he blocked the glow with his own wings, meshing their feathers together. "Am I not beautiful enough--"

"You're attractive." Lehran moved his fingers, stretched her, pressed deep and listened to her whimper into his ear. Her hair spilled over his shoulders and veiled him from the garden, tickling his skin where she parted his robes and slid her hands beneath the fabric to push it down. "You're beautiful." It came out strained, muffled against her shoulder, and he grasped her hips with both hands, unsure if he wanted to push her away or pull her in.

Leanne hummed against his ear, pleased, and stroked his hair back with one hand. The other positioned him at her entrance and guided him in. "You know what needs to be done."

He closed his eyes and let out a shaky breath. "Yes."

"Just a little while." Her hands caressed his cheeks, her lips brushed his eyelids. "Just until they're ready for us."

This is the only genre where I agonize over every word and still fail. This, and humor.

Porn/humor OTP? Maybe that Sephiran/Zelgius entry should be next! :D

NO FAIL AT ALL, like I said in my comment over there this is really pretty descriptive-wise and bittersweet. You made it plausible and interesting, and also beautiful :3

Thank you 8D

Thank you. XD

I should probably change my style if I don't want to be outed, but that's so much effort.

I thought I liked that pairing... I may still do. But I feel... weird. @__@ Oh it's just me, so don't mind.
I can't yet cope with "seductive herons" (and probably never wii) I guess. It seems I am a forever corny idealist. Anyway, the idea was quite interesting. :)

You thought you liked the Leanne/Lehran pairing?

I have a hard time seeing herons be seductive too, actually. For me it's because of their angelic qualities. But they're still bird laguz, and supposed to be "closer to their instincts" so I don't think a heron would hesitate to initiate a mating or something if it was necessary. That was my reasoning. It's the same when I write Lehran/Sanaki - once he makes the decision to get involved with her, there's no hesitating.

Yes, I agree, but I still don't see how that implies being especially seductive when they are heron.

For Lehran, I can understand that due to his past and experiences, his beliefs and valors may have changed a lot of course. Yet I always though him a sort of exception for the heron tribe. While he has the physic of one of them, his mind seem more beorc than anything else to me.
Then again, seductiveness can serve many purposes, and lend to many incomes, right ? (incomes?)

As I can imagine Lehran and Reyson using their bodies, I have issues looking at Leanne and Rafiel the same way.

I am aware my opinion remain subjective and idealist.

The real question seems to be: does being a heron mean they can't be seductive?

I don't think so. It's easy to feel like that because Leanne acts like a child, and Rafiel seems very sweet, and it's hard to imagine them doing that kind of thing. But it's not hard to imagine Reyson would seduce someone because he is a very willful character.

But if you consider Rafiel's apparent age, for example, he's old enough to have children, or at least have a wife - that would have died in the massacre, of course. Herons procreate, so I have no trouble believing that they're capable of using their charm to seduce someone. Physical attraction is part of what brings people together. Not always the only thing, but it's a big part of the equation.

Maybe - with "beliefs and valors" you mean believes and values? And with "incomes" maybe "outcomes" would make more sense. Outcome or result.

Being an idealist is fine. You don't have to envision Leanne as a seductress if you don't want to. XD It's easier for me to believe it of Leanne than of Rafiel. For Lehran... I'm not sure. It depends on when and with who.

Yeah, outcome, I guess. And err va...lues ! yeah yeah! that one ! Lol Thank.
Oh, and, thank you for err... (I'm not at best terms with English today) foooor picking (T_T) rare, seldom, crack pairings and making them sound alright somehow. I love to read challenges like that.

Mh... I guess it doesn't bother me to see Leanne as someone able to seduce. It's more about the fact that she is ready to go with someone for which she doesn't feel anything (I don't even know if she is attracted to him, it seem more like a sort of physical need or hurrying duty) rather than wait for Naesala. I mean ; it's not like her lifespan is short or the tribe is doomed if nothing is done right at that point.

But maybe there was more clues about the timeline, or feelings that I did not got because of language difficulties. I don't know.

Ah, I see more what you meant now about being an idealist. I'm more of a realist - people don't always love each other when they decide to share a bed, and that's not always the most legitimate reason to do so anyway, especially in historical settings.

I didn't think about this before posting, but my idea is at least that she's attracted to him. There are a lot of ways Leanne could benefit from having a relationship with Lehran later, after Naesala dies, too.

That isn't implied much in the story, but it should be. If I'd edited, maybe I would have thought about it.

Yeah. ^^ If it these were more clearly mentined, I think my soul would be more prone (arg! prone? able!) to rest in peace. :P
I realize now that I did not understand the meaning of the "he/she will die".

I still think I love the pairing. It has... much potential. But, to be sure... hehe, I'd be better if it was verified with a new fic of yours, right ?

Btw, I still don't think I have issue with the fact of two persons sharing a bed without love.
